5-inch 1080p Android smartphones are all the rage right now, with HTC,ZTE, Sharp, and Lenovo all jumping into the pool. Chinese Blu-ray player maker Oppo wants a piece of the 5-inch-diameter pie too, and is planning a full-scale international launch for its Find 5 handset.The Find 5 comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1. The operating system ran fairly smooth, though a bit less comfortably than the most recent Nexus or Galaxy smartphones. Swipes, taps and flicks were sometimes picked up inaccurately, though that improved some when the company sent me the retail version of its firmware. Oppo is planning a pretty aggressive bi-weekly update schedule, so some of these minor issues should get ironed out pretty quickly.

There’s a lot to like about the Find 5. It’s one of the most well-built phones we’ve seen come out of China, but it’s also got a few quirks that prevent it from competing on the same level as the larger international smartphone brands.

The Find 5’s display is the centerpiece of the device. It has a resolution 1,920 x 1,080 and a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. Inside, the device is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The rear camera packs 13 megapixels and includes hardware HDR, while the front shooter has 1.9 megapixels.

World’s Slimmest Smartphone, ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Ultra, Unveiled at 2013 Consumer Electronic Show

Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra is announced at CES 2013 at LAS VEGAS which is the world's thinnest Smartphones ever measures just 6.45 millimeters on its side. Low-key manufacturer Alcatel is the latest to claim the title, however short-lived, with its One Touch Idol Ultra model.

The company also introduced the more chunky One Touch Idol and the 5-inch quad-core One Touch Scribe HD.

The Idol Ultra is pretty similar in features to other high-end Android phones, with an HD (presumably 720p) AMOLED screen, a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor of indiscriminate origin, 1GB of RAM, and an 8MP rear camera. There is No Memory Expension slot, On board storage is not mentioned. Alcatel mentions that the device is already running Jelly Bean 4.1.

ONE TOUCH Idol

In the same product line, the ONE TOUCH Idol also breaks current records, weighing in at 110 grams (3.88 oz) making it the lightest smartphone in its category. The device’s dual-core processor and Android platform provides a feature-rich experience and supports a large, bright 4.7” IPS display, 8MP camera and 2MP front camera, running on Android Jelly Bean and offered in premium brushed metallic finishes.

“The ONE TOUCH Idol device series represents a breakthrough in technology,” said Alain Lejeune, Head of Research and Development for ALCATEL ONE TOUCH. “We’ve pushed the barriers on design, resulting in devices that offer the perfect balance between ultra-slim form factor, large display, outstanding performance, and rich user experience, while keeping the devices affordably priced to consumers.”

ONE TOUCH Scribe HD

The ONE TOUCH SCRIBE HD introduces new creative tools for personal expression and productivity. The 5" HD smartphone is first to debut the new MediaTek MT6589 quad-core chipset, providing faster Internet performance, smoother user-experience to simultaneously run power-hungry apps & games, along with premium multimedia & graphics capabilities. Beyond running a quad-core CPU, the ONE TOUCH Scribe HD also supports 4G speeds, 8MP camera plus 720p HD front camera, and operates on Android Jelly Bean.

Alcatel has set the release dates for all three phones for January in China, with the intention of releasing them to the U.S. some time after that. Only the One Touch Scribe HD has even a vague American release date for the second quarter. No mention was made of Europe or other territories. The One Touch Idol Ultra has a projected price of $444, the One Touch Scribe HD will be $397, and the lighter One Touch Idol has no price specified as of yet. None of the three HSPA phones have been attached to any carrier, U.S. or otherwise, but perhaps they'll catch someone's eye here at CES.

Acer 7-inch Iconia B1-A71 tablet officially announces at CES 2013

Acer has officially announced the 7-inch Iconia B1-A71 tablet at CES in Las Vegas.

The Iconia B1-A71 comes with a 7-inch WSVGA capacitive multitouch display and is powered by the Mediatek dual-core 1.2GHz processor (MTK 8317T) alongside 512MB RAM.
